OK so I had my REI dividend that I needed to spend and I have wanted one of these (http://Dakar.smugmug.com/gallery/4586682_6Y76K/1/270447074_HhKjW) for a long time and I figured if it was free why not!

Wow, that looks nifty
If I cooked at all (let alone while camping), or even knew how to start a campfire ... I would give that a long hard look... I like how compact it is.

 I love it! Small and functional, I can think of at least a few occasions where that would have come in handy.
Small bag of charcoal or downed fire wood and you are set.

Look at the bottom of This (http://www.vat19.com/dvds/compact-collapsible-firebowl.cfm) page.
Even LD could use this!

That is a nice product! It would keep charcoal high and dry in wet weather. That alone would make it nice to have.

I almost bought one a while ago but....... had some second thoughts.
#1 what if is warps will it still slide through the connection holes
#2 Cleaning it I know they give you a small grill tool but It has to be pristine I would think to fit all those bars back into the tube
#3 Screws for the legs I can see me loosing one
Ease my mind and tell me none of these are a problem when you write your Report Dakar :D:

#1 If it warps I do not see that it would warp the last inch of each rod to the point it would not work. As to the end rods, I don't think your fire will be that big and if it is call the Fire Dept. first.
#2 I will make sure it is fairly clean when I put it up but it does have some goo room. I also carry a sponge with a scrubber backing on it to get the last tid bits of goo off.
#3 If you are prone to loosing things like me LT, all the parts are small and you could lose anything if not careful. But they are not way small and they are much thicker than the rods. I don't think I will have that problem.
That said, I have lost all manner of gear over the years to very large black holes...:slaphead: Do like I will do, prop your grill up on rocks if you lose one!
Happy Camping!:campfire:
I know the :rules::lol:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that "compact fire bowl" is just a vegetable steamer without the holes?

That would work as a fire bowl
The holes would allow for more air Hotter quicker fire I would think

I don't think I want my fire as hot as that. One you would get more warping of the grill. And two you would go through more fuel I think. But I was going to go get one anyway cause they are very cheap (at Wall-Mart?)and just use some foil to line it to keep it clean. I just hate to make more trash than I have to. I'll come back from my trip with a bunch of tinfoil balls in my gear bag!
I have two other stoves that I can use for quick eating setups if I wish. My Jetboil and a Nova multi-fuel stove. I was wanting this for a bit of sit back and relax cause I have the time kinda cooking.:campfire:

I agree, this is the thing for slow grilling a steak or chicken.
With the exception of car camping with the girls (we always make chili), I can't remember the last time I had something other than Mountain House meals while camping. I'd like to be able to take a fishing pole with us on some of our rides this summer, and sit down to fresh fish for dinner. Then pack up and ride another 3 or 4 miles to get away from the smell and bears it would draw in. :D:
