...and yes, I took pics (although not very many :redface1:)
It was my bestest friends birthday, so we went for a ride to celebrate :yahoo:.
We left Friday afternoon and I got home a few hours ago.
We took Hwy 1 up the coast until just past Point Arena, then we headed East on Mountain View Rd (which was a hoot except for some patches of bad pavement and some spots where the road turned into one lane for both directions without warning ) and Hwy 253. Hwy 253 was a FIND :yahoo: I WILL be going back for a second helping of that road again very, very soon. Smooth pavement, outstanding scenery, with lots of twisties :riding: It was a great way to end the day. We stopped in the little town of Ukiah for the night and got up bright and early to head home.
We took Hwy 101 South to Hwy 175 East. Hwy 175 was the highlight of todays ride home. I had ridden it before and always wanted to go back and ride it again. It was everything I remembered it to be :wootrock:. We took 175 to Hwy 29 and then I decided that we should be more adventurous and try some of the smaller side roads. This is where things got interesting. We took Seigler Canyon Rd, which was pretty and mellow, to Big Canyon Rd... which was the nastiest bit of road I've ever had the pleasure of riding on. It started out great and then the road turned to poo. The asphalt was so deteriorated that you could barely call it a paved road. Potholes everywhere... so many potholes that you really couldn't avoid them. Boooooooooo :gaah:
Big Canyon Rd dumped off onto Hwy 29 and we headed South from there. Hwy 29 is a hoot, except for the traffic (it passes through Calistoga and Napa)... but there are plenty of passing lanes to help get you past the slow pokes and looky-loos.
Most memorable thing about this particular trip: The number of close encounters with wildlife...
Number of Hawks swooping down like they're going to attack me: 1
Number of times Quail crossed the road in front of me: 4
Number of times wild Turkeys crossed in front of me: 3
Number of times wild Turkeys flew at me like they were gonna attack me: 1
Number of times dogs chased me: 1
Number of times snakes crossed in front of me: 1
Number of times a VERY LARGE DEER crossed in front of me: 1
Number of times cars crossed over the double yellow in front of me: 2
okay, now for the few pics I stopped to take:
