Hey all,

Been a couple of weeks since I took this ride, so the memories are probably a little dusty by now- sorry, been a bit busy with life... :-)

Historic Columbia River Highway
About 50 miles

Came home from work and the weather was actually nice- 60 degrees and sunny! Hubby was "too tired" to want to go for a ride (in his defense, he'd gone to work at 4am that morning....), so off I went on my own! As we live on the eastern outskirts of Portland, I decided that it was time I did one of the famous rides (at least, famous around here)- the Old Historic Columbia River Highway. I have been to Multnomah Falls before, but before I'd always gone by taking Interstate 84 and hopping off the freeway exit. This time, I rode from Gresham all the way out to the Historic Highway.

For those of you who don't know what this road is, it is a section of the original highway used to travel along the Columbia River. It was built in 1913 - 1922, and the original engineers designed it for travel by the cars of that time. All that translates into a beautiful windy, twisty road that is perfect for motorcycles! I couldn't wait to get out there.

On the way out, I just cruised through and noted the curves, checked the conditions, etc. I didn't know the road yet, and didn't want to trust that there wasn't water or gravel or odd conditions anywhere. (Lesson learned on my Silver Falls ride! LOL). The weather was warm, conditions were perfect and- shockingly, there was NO traffic. I mean, none. I swear I saw a total of 10 cars during the whole two hours I was on this road..... which meant.....

PHOTO OP! I admit, I love photography. Not all that great at it yet, but I do love practicing. Due to the beautiful light, complete lack of traffic (we're talking me standing in the middle of the road shooting for minutes with no one coming by), and the fact that I brought my camera, I hereby present the following collection of images. :-) Enjoy!

Not only are your pics great, but it means so much more to me since those are all roads and areas that I loved as a kid. Multnomah Falls is one of the prettiest places in Oregon. You can usually see a rainbow coming off the falls from the highest bridge on the trail in late afternoon sunshine. It always made me feel like the place was kind of magical.

I have a Canon Digital Rebel XTI that my hubby bought me for Christmas. It's a 10.2 megapixel; for now I just have the stock, pre-packaged 18-35mm zoom lens that came with it. Can't wait to add some lenses to my quiver, though... probably for my birthday in July.... :-)

Having a choice of lenses while you're out riding is a lot of fun. I wish I'd had spare lenses with me last year, but since I didn't it gives me an excuse to repeat our ride sometime!
