View Full Version : How To Improve A Business Trip

For the first time ever, I rode my Wee-Strom on a business trip. Rode about 200 miles south to Corpus Christi for a conference, which is located right by the Gulf of Mexico...

The week prior, the Wee got some new shoes:

Not much to see on the way there except trees and pastures and livestock:

It was kind of rainy and windy, and I had a meeting to get to, so I didn't take many pics on the way there.

The second day, I escaped at 5 p.m., and headed for the beach, which was about 20 miles from my downtown hotel. The weather was nice, about 80 degrees with a nice breeze.

Many beaches in Texas are officially considered "public roads", and are open to traffic:

Looks like a GREAT business trip! Much better than being stuck in a dank hotel with a bunch of suits all day!

I then went further down the beach to see what else there was to see:

Then headed back towards downtown CC:

U.S.S. Lexington aircraft carrier:
http://bobcat.smugmug.com/photos/281025157_kbp3n-M.jpg

There's some real ugly parts of CC as well, a refinery for example:
http://bobcat.smugmug.com/photos/281025173_eSEro-M.jpg

I read in the paper that they were going to demolish these bridge towers with explosives the next morning:
http://bobcat.smugmug.com/photos/281025201_wjUGy-M.jpg

So on Friday morning before I headed back to Austin, I went to see the destruction. That's the same bridge towers as in the previous pic, but on the other side of the river. All the media folks were there:

http://bobcat.smugmug.com/photos/281025252_CrEHM-M.jpg

I got a little video of the collapse of the bridge towers, but it was rather anticlimactic, and not very loud. I was hoping for an ear-splitting BOOOMMM, but I was too far away.

Heading back towards Austin, I think this bridge is over the Guadalupe River....

I stopped in Lockhart, the BBQ capital of Texas. This is the county courthouse:
http://bobcat.smugmug.com/photos/281025328_rMCW6-M.jpg

And this my favorite BBQ joint, best beef brisket ever. I got some to go, and ate it back at the office.

The end.

That's what is so cool about everyone here we can take a thread and totally change the subject in a matter of a couple of posts
I have never had BBQ from Texas or Kansas and been in both states I don't know why
I did drink Lone Star Beer when I was in Texas :D:

Back on Topic: :D: Thanks for your Business Trip Report Bobcat :wootrock: By the look of your pictures you made the right decision to go via bike
I followed the thread you supplied about the Portugese man-o war :hiding: Sounds like they are one nasty creature if you were to bump into one Dead or alive

+1!! This is the bestest business trip I've ever seen!!!

A few tears ago I had to take a business trip to Corpus. Of course it was too far to ride, but I did go to a Harley dealership to try and rent a bike for a day. The dealership didn't have a helmet for me to wear, so I didn't rent one... but as I drove around I sure wished I was on a bike instead :riding:

Thanks for sharing your trip with us

The best business trips are on a bike! Way to go Bobcat!

I've never been a huge fan of bar-b-q really, but I did have a briskitt at Famous Daves in Denver a couple months ago and it was pretty good. I may have to try some KC BBQ sometime!

I'm spoiled, Nut makes the best BBQ I've ever had by far. Better than Carolina, TX, Memphis, or KC!

I might be a little biased...

Bonnie Abbzug

Maybe I should take a trip to AK just for the BBQ!

Get Nut to cook for you. You wouldn't be sorry! He's got chicken on the grill as we speak. I'll eat well this evening!

Oh that sounds good! We are looking at having some left over pizza for dinner :(:, but could smell someone grilling when we got home from work, so I told Duke we would grill tomorrow, after I go to the store!

Be sure to have a bite of the chicken for me tonight!

It was Goood! We had steamed green beans to go with the chicken, and after it settles a while we have homemade banana bread for desert.

Steamed green beans and coleslaw, and honey roasted organic peanut butter. Have grapes and oranges too. We're carnivore and vegetarian friendly around here!

Got any veggies? :D:

These days my system prefers the ease of fruits and veggies so we always got something when I am home. Occasionally, I will cube up some tofu and pile some other veggies in the wok for a bit of a mixed grill. Peppers I love the taste of but,,, I am allergic. :nono: Tomatoes are bit to acidic for my system but I just double up on the prilosec and partake in the salsa when the urge is on. My brother down in Ontario, Cali is the same way.

mmmmm... tofu...
