Considering Nicky rode with something like a plate in one of his bones a few years back in Valencia I would bet Hayden could ride if he had to or wanted to. This by comparison, looks like a simple (wise) career move.

With Honda still silent on renewing his deal, there isn't much incentive for Hayden to risk his health next year just to jockey for 8th or 10th place in the championship on a team that probably won't resign him or want him around much longer.

I think he's maybe getting healthy in anticipation of being somewhere else next year, somewhere like, say, Ducati.
