View Full Version : Possibly last ride of the year

I was actually able to get out on the bike on Saturday. Bf and I decided we were going to go for at least a short ride since it was REALLY nice out.
We ended up going about 70-75 miles, which isn't much, but was fun anyway. We rode through areas that had a LOT of trees with lots of beautiful colors, but no place to stop and take pictures!! Not even shoulders on the roads.
Might be the last ride we end up taking this year. I don't find it all that enjoyable to be freezing my butt off while I ride, so considering that it's going to be getting colder here starting this week, we might be done for the year. Other than maybe a short trip here or there. Unless we get lucky and it's nice out on a weekend when we aren't already busy putting up a shed (which we have to do- need to have somewhere to store the bikes and still be able to get the snowblower out!!)

Wow, i feel so fortunate to be in California! We can ride all year, with an extra layer of clothing or electric gear. I had to keep my bike garaged for 3 months last year in Reno and hated it!!
I am sorry you are sort of stuck storing it. Do you know how to winterize?? There are several steps to take to store it for any length of time. I will look for the link if you need to do that and aren't sure.
Hope you enjoyed your ride today!!!:riding:

Bummer, I know how you feel, we got snow today. It may warm up for one more weekend, but it looks like its about time to winterize the bikes and put them to bed.

I know the feeling Starlight. At least you wher lucky enough to get out for a ride on Saturday. I had to work out of town so I couldn't even get out for a short putt. I leave again Monday evening for two weeks so I hope someone gets to put on a few miles for me........please??;): Guess we can only hope for a warm spell before we get hit with the thick stuff.:hiding: Gonn'a be a long winter this year as I am all ready looking forward to spring.:cry1: Suppose this means that thoes who live in the warmer climates will have to keep us on life-support with some road reports this winter. I'm sure it's some where in the:rules: along with the manditory :LT:.

End of the season? I just picked up a new pair of First Gear electric gloves, to plug into my Gerbing electric jacket, which conveniently plug into the electric pants...If you want to ride year round, it's very possible. But I have not had to break out the electric yet, it's hardly been below 50 yet.
For those of you interested in riding year round, check out the Rounder's web site (http://www.yearroundriders.com/forum/index.php). You might be suprised to find that a good deal of our members are from New England and the mid west - Michigan, Indiana...and we have a handful from Alaska! :D:

I don't, but my bf does. He had to winterize his bike last year, so he'll be helping me this year!
Hopefully it will be a short winter- although I don't think we'll get that lucky!!

Would love to get the electric stuff but my old bikes arn't set up for it and can't handle it anyway. Farmers alminac says it's going to be colder with abit more snow than usual (for what that is worth). May just have to haul it south later this winter and get some ride-time in (a.k.a. therapy).:riding:

Gerbing has battery powered stuff too!
My friend Cliff wrote a nice review (http://cliffsriffs.blogspot.com/2008/09/battery-powered-jett-vest-makes-for.html)of another brand's battery powered vest.
We've been trying to get out on these nice days and only went for a short ride on Sunday. To many family obligations at the moment. The only good thing is we can ride usually until December than it starts to get warm again in Feb and March. I would hate to store my bike for the winter. Here's hopping winter goes by quickly for everyone that has to put their bikes to sleep.;):

Good to see you got out starlight! Don't give up you never know when a warm spell might hit...
I ride all year round. I have the full meal deal of Gerbing gear including heated socks!:ecstasy:
BUT! I can get ice up to 6 inches thick in the driveway. If that clears the road out can still be iced in at the bottom of the hills and can stay that way for a long time because of the trees shading the road.:mghissyfit: Snow I can ride in. Ice, not so much...
It kills me to see bikes out riding on those warm winter days in town...:cry1:

My last place was like that. I hope my next one doesn't have that problem.

I'll confess to plugging in these last couple of weeks for some of my morning commutes. I resisted going electric for quite a while, but finally gave in last fall and now there's no going back to life without it! Sort of like when we bought our current car and it happened to come with heated leather seats and I thought, "yeah right, I'll never use them." Wrong! The thing I love the best about them is that even after the bike is napping for the winter and I'm stuck in the car, I can turn on the seat and still drive around with the windows down and the sun roof open.
For the winter my bike gets wedged into our small shed along with my son's FZR and his friend's Savage. My husband's HD winters in the big shed with a friend's HD, but we throw the Honda snow blower in there just so there's some desegregation! We have managed to pull them out for the occasional winter thaw, but it's a very rare occurance.

I wonder why folks resist being comfortable? It's not like resisting putting the heat on in the house, cause that costs big bucks...but no additional cost to putting on the heated grips, and plugging in the coat. I hear comments from "unplugged" people that it somehow "doesn't count" if you have electrics. what doesn't count? Riding in comfort...as if...

I hear that all the time too. I just  and ride away all warm and cozy...
But why would you want to ride thinking even for a moment about being cold or wet or what ever and not be present in the now and staying safe? I have been known to stop and get the wrinkles of my jeans undone under my riding pants because I was thinking about it and not what I was doing.:confused2:
But then thats just me...
