Hello all!
Ok so I started looking into buying leathers. I am interested in doing some track days in the furture and I just want to feel a bit more protected when riding and I thought leathers would be good. I searched for leathers for women, we dont have alot of options but I ended up getting the Spidi Wind Pro One Piece Leather Suit. I havent recieved it yet but I have some questions...
Are there any other suits out there that you all like?
What do you prefer one piece or two piece? I know some people wish they would have two pieces for going to the bathroom, but I would think a one piece would be alot safer.
Also for sizing, I know its diffrent with each manufactuer and woman, but do you think for the most part if you measure yourself and buy that size, it should be good?
Any other suggestions or comments about riding leathers, would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks everyone!
Meg

I've not tried any women's leather pants...but the rest of women's pants all seem to run rather small in my opinion (jackets as well). I've been forced to wear all men's gear just because of my shoulder width and long legs.. gah! BTW...any other women have issues with the jackets? My shoulders are too broad for any women's jackets, but I have to be very careful with the men's because of the uhh...generous chest God gave me. LOL

I haven't noticed the shoulders so much, but my Re'vit jacket was made for someone with a super skinny neck. I was never able to close it around my throat, and ended up cutting off the strap because it kept smacking the side of my helmet.

Hi Meg:
I have a leather jacket and pants that zip together which should be sufficient for track days (I did one last June and they did just fine for me). It's nice to be able to take the jacket off when you're taking a break (be it bathroom or lunch!), etc.
Hein Gericke is a good brand for women as they seem to "get it" in regards to the curves that we have been blessed with! And they do have some nice options for leather gear that would be great for street and track.
Good luck!

I'm not going to be any help but I wanted to wish you luck in your search. I have super long branches (i.e. arms & legs) so finding gear is a bit of a nightmare for me. I've been shopping for a leather women's riding jacket with no luck because none of them have sleeves long enough. :(: And the problem I run into with men's jackets is that if I get the size that has long enough sleeves it's way too large in the chest/body. *NIGHTMARE* :mghissyfit:
Theoretically it *should* be good if you measure yourself and order the size they recommend but it doesn't always work out that way. It may end up being trial & error. Good luck! :):

What people kept telling me is that if ya have the money, there are a number of companies out there that will custom make leathers for ya... jacket and pants.

It's not just women but you all have a much bigger problem then men. Unless you are lucky, the only way to get a racing suit to fit you perfect it so have it custom made. Even if you look at the sizing charts, they are all over the place per manufacturer. Also, depends on the track as to whether they allow a two piece suit. The one near us does but from what I understand not all tracks do.
I crashed in a two piece Alpinestar (which I highly recommend) and it held together just fine. I did a small friction burn on my forearm when I hit the ground and the leathers slid against my skin. Same concept as a rug burn. If you have really loose fitting leathers, you run a much larger risk of that happening.
Oh, and good for you wanting to get leathers and realizing that leathers are for the street also and not just tracks. I'm glad I was wearing them when I went down.

If you get a two piece you need to make sure it has at least a 3/4 zipper. That is a zipper that goes at least 3/4s of the way around. A half or a 10" zipper will not work if you go down feet first. Your jacket can still ride up. The thought of that just makes me cringe...:scared:
I know a young man here in Ks that was hit by a car, his jacket went up and the windshield wiper made a 52 staple long gash all the way to the bone...
To race around here it is only one piece. Trackdays,,,it just depends on who is running it.
And I don't always agree with what they do allow...:grump:
Almost every racer here sends there leathers down to a lady in Oklahoma to get them custom fitted.
For what it is worth I use a two piece as I like to be able to take my jacket off at stops or between sessions. Leather is HOT!
This is an old pic of me at a Trackday on my BMW F650GSD.

Thanks alot everyone! I think personally I would feel safer in a one piece. I had also looked at the alpinestars suits, so I will check out those more if the SPidi one does not work. I will also keep everyone posted on how the SPidi one fits etc. I cant afford to do custom suit and nor would I until I am way more serious. I have only been riding 2 seasons...so I dont need to be dropping that much money.
I don't seem to have much of an issue with jackets...I guess I am pretty average size. Pants and gloves are a different story. I have a pair of textile Fieldsheer pants and they are nice but he fit isnt so good. The knee pads for some reason do not fit where my knees are which in turn dig in. Not good. But they fit fine in length etc?? So I dont know.

I have heard nothing but good feedback about Syed. I plan on getting leathers made sometime early next year. At my height nothing fits.

Looks great!
Yesterday I just got a Dainese jacket and leather pants - 3/4 zip, and super comfy. We are so lucky that the Dainese store here http://www.yelp.com/biz/dainese-d-store-san-francisco#hrid:YQjd-lzuno_WT7nIAthN2Q carries a HUGE selection of womens gear. I had tried on a bunch of men's jackets elsewhere and they were just not right. The womens stuff just fits better - but I would not have felt comfortable ordering on line wihtout being able to try it on, especially the pants.
I'll post pics, but not til I get my bike back from the shop! ;) I've been wearing the jacket all day to break it in. It's kind of funny to be in line at Peets for a coffee in full leather and armor (and jeans and rubber rain boots). Nice conversation starter.

They are totally custom fit and as long as your weight doesn't fluctuate much you will have a set for life!! (and no binning allowed...:omg:)

You have to start it every once in a while or the battery goes dead. Might as well make sure the gear fits, and keep the bike company as it charges. Just saying...
