I bought some new gear... and I broke several of my personal gear buying rules in doing so.
Things I have sworn to myself that I would never do, that I just did
1) Never buy mens gear... it'll never fit right
2) No more textile gear... EVER
3) Never buy all new gear before a big trip
My rationalizations for breaking the above personal tenets:
1) I had a list of requirements that needed to be filled if I was going to break rule number two, and no manufacturer had any womens gear that met all of my requirements
2) I have an extreme dislike of textile gear... mostly because A) it's not as protective as leather and B) it doesn't breathe worth a damn... it's like wrapping yourself in a plastic garbage bag - instant sweat factory. One of the requirements for textile gear was that it NOT be waterproof, I think the waterproofing of the textile is what makes it not breathe well, and thus miserable to wear. But leather is far from 4-season capable as far as gear goes, so I knew textile gear would be needed for my big trip, since I'll be riding in all kinds of temps and weather conditions.
3) This is a HUGE no-no... but I took so long in trying to find exactly what I wanted that I wont have much of an opportunity to test out the gear before I leave. :gaah: Oh well, nothing like a trial by fire I suppose
So... it should all arrive next week... stay tuned for pics and reviews.

I like that! you will be very visible!!! great. I like the pants too.
I have worn mens wear and think if you still feel like you are a women and have she small
feminine touch you are going to be just wonderfully feminine!
I personally sometime riding alone, I prefere to have neutral gear, so when I do not want to recognized as a women, just keep my helmet on and I am in my cocoon! It is a curious feeling.

Interesting views LD. I agree with you on #2 and #3 and can see your point on #1 (it would be like me with womens clothing.............don't go there Dakar!).
#2 I grew up with leathers and am partial to them, but after seeing Dakars new jacket last summer, would like to try one out for a spell. I can tell you alot about leather but very little about textile. The few bike shops we have around here don't carry anything other than leather so I don't see much of the textile. Interested in hearing your opinion after you have had it awile.
#3 How can you argue with logic like that?? Even after having new equipment for awile, one can still find out new things about it. On the road is not a time to find problems. At least at home you can address it!

Here are a few pics and first impressions.
The pants are more grey than white. Based on the pictures on the website, I thought the pants were white, so I didn't think the jacket and pants were going to match, but they do... so this was a pleasant surprise.
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956180_n6VL6-XL.jpg http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956217_HhxAk-XL.jpg
The pants fit perfectly with all of the liners in, but felt loosy-goosy without them. I called the store I purchased them from and after we spoke I'm confident that I have the correct size... if I went with a size smaller, the pants would be too tight with the liners in. I think I'm just used to the skin tight feel of my leathers, so anything else just feels too roomy to me.
The pants have zippered vents on the legs, which I'm sure will feel nice when I hit the warmer states.
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956310_qTNXV-XL.jpg
They also have the strip of reflective stuff on the outer thigh, but that's it for the entire pant. I wish there was another strip on the lower leg (like on Aerostich pants).
The jacket zips to the pants almost all the way around, or there's a small zipper mid-back if you just want to zip it in the rear so the back doesn't ride up. Using the 360 degree zipper was a bit tricky with the cloth panel they have covering the zipper (I'm sure there's some super clever reason for the fabric covering the zipper, like to prevent rain from draining off the jacket and into the pants or something). I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956277_vsh5a-XL.jpg
You can also kind-of see in that photo the super plush fabric on the interior of the pants along the back... niiiiiiiice. And what you also see peeking out there is POCKETS :wootrock: YES!!!, my Vanson leathers have NO pockets (I understand that having keys and crap in your pockets while riding is ill advised, but when you're traveling it sure is nice to have some pockets for ear plugs and stuff)
Both the pants and jacket came with two liners, one for warmth, and one for waterproofing. The nice touch with the liners is that the zippers for all of them are stepped/staggered so bulk is reduced by not having two zippers stacked on top of each other. It also makes it easier to zip and unzip them since the other zipper is out of the way. The zippers are also color coordinated so you know your zipping the liner to the appropriate zipper.
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956261_PZG5d-XL.jpg
The liners work independently or together... so I can wear the pants with no liner, or with just the waterproof liner, or just the insulating layer, or both.
The material on the knees is super grippy. I have no idea what it's made of, but it grips like nobody's business. Grips the tank just as well as my leathers.
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956293_gjsuB-XL.jpg
The jacket is not as obnoxious a color as it appears in these photos... not that I mind obnoxious... but it's just not as bright as the photos indicate. The original manufacturers photo I posted earlier more closely represents the true color.
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956236_bNXv4-XL.jpg http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956245_g6bjv-XL.jpg
The jacket fits perfectly everywhere except the arms... which I expected since it's a mens jacket and I have scrawny girly arms  But again, the jacket fits great with the liners in, and felt too loose to me with them out. I was told I just need to get used to how textile gear fits as opposed to the skin tight leathers I'm used to.
The first thing I noticed was all of the POCKETS :ecstasy:I think I counted 15 pockets on this bad boy. I now have more pockets than things to put in them!
There are reflective panels on the forearm, front chest, and a large strip across the back.
The jacket has lots of venting (compared to my leathers) with the flip up panels on the chest, the mesh pockets behind the front chest pockets, zippers on the forearms, and zippers on the back.
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956337_ZqQ9W-XL.jpg
The adjustable neck snap is a nice touch, and the fabric edging on the collar is soooo soft
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956324_rLkHk-XL.jpg
The liners for the jacket work the same way as with the pants.... stepped zippers so no bulk and color coded.
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956362_YdWQw-XL.jpg
The jacket also has a hole in the upper left shoulder area for a water bladder tube. I don't wear a camelbak while riding, so I plan on running my headphone wires through the hole so I can run the cord through the interior of the jacket
Now... for the bad :(:
While taking these pictures I heard something fall from the jacket, and it was half of a snap :gaah: after searching the jacket over I found the other half of the snap, as well as a hole where the snap used to reside
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/508956400_nvmTw-XL.jpg
I was NOT amused. So I guess this is where I learn about the quality of Rev-It's customer support. UPDATE: Rev'it! promptly sent me a new liner.
Other than the snap debacle, my only complaints are:
It comes stock with a completely worthless back protector. I upgraded to a nicer model, but when shelling out almost $600 for a non-leather jacket... well, I think it should come with a kick-ass back protector in it from the get-go.
Vague washing instructions... that also tell you to only wash it with Rev-It gear cleaner  riiiiight... like I'm going to carry around a special bottle of Rev-It gear wash. I couldn't find any washing instructions for the liners.
Both the jacket and pants came with a giant book/packet full of information (you can kind of see it in the first photos), unfortunately none of the information was useful. It was all marketing mumbo jumbo and nothing about all of the features of the jacket/pants. I played with the jacket and pants for about an hour and found all kinds of pockets and stuff... it would have been nice if they just outlined all the nifty stuff in the reading material.Alright, that's all I can think of for now... I'll keep everyone posted about how Rev-It customer service deals with my faulty snap.
UPDATE: Rev'it is sending me a new liner on Monday :wootrock: and I get to keep the faulty one as a spare

I went for a test ride in my new gear and I'm officially impressed. I wore the suit with both the liner and insulating layer on a ride where the temperature would go from 60's to the 80's.
I purposely left the liners in so that I could see at what point I started to sweat profusely in the gear. To be honest, I thought I would start sweating immediately regardless of temp because that's what all of my previous textile gear was like. But, to my surprise, I didn't start sweating in all the layers until the temp reached about 80 degrees. Around 85 I was pretty miserable in all of it... but I didn't have any of the vents open either. I was trying to see how hot I could go before I would need to pull the liners out... and I think 80 degrees is that point for me.
Since you pretty much need to completely disrobe to take the liners out (the pants are riding pants and not over-pants, so if you want to take the liners out, you need to find some privacy), I was hoping there would be a wide temperature range for leaving them in.
I'm used to wearing my gloves over the sleeves of my riding jacket, but I was finding it to be a bit of a challenge to get the sleeves of this jacket to fit in/under the gauntlet part of my gloves.
The jacket feels pretty roomy without the liners in it, so I think my next test will be riding with the liners out and all of the vents open... I hope it doesn't balloon too much.

Just to update this thread, this is the resolution I received from Rev-it about the collar loop thingie, after a couple emails back and forth:
I have a supply of new for 2009 collar loops that are much hardier. We can do one of a couple things: I can send you the replacement loop and you can have it installed (very simple seamstress job) - we will reimburse you for the cost. We can have it sent to Rainy Pass Repair in Seattle - they know what to do and will bill us for the repair. We can also have it sent back here to our office for repair. What do you think would be easiest for you?
Sorry for the delay and inconvenience....and then I found this, two weeks into my trip, and only the third time I've worn the jacket with the liners in
http://luckydevil.smugmug.com/photos/553829319_4UeEY-M.jpg
The loop that holds the sleeve of the liners has come loose :gaah:
Also, the orange color has already sun-faded on the back of the jacket. To be expected I guess, since I'm wearing it all day - every day...but I thought it would stay orange longer than it did
...yet another email sent to Rev-it.
