Anyone going in '06?
Anyone go last year?
I went last year, and it was pretty cool, but the only thing that really sucked was when we got there to sign up for bikes on Friday night, I was only able to sign up for ONE Kaw 636!! I wasn't interested in riding anything but sportbikes (that's my own fault - but I wanted to experience the newer sportbikes to see what I may want to race in another year or so)...
I spent the WHOLE day camped at the Kawi tent hoping to get hooked up with a sportbike! I was able to get 2 additional 636 rides thanks to the absolutely wonderful gal and her husband who were working for Kawi!
The other thing was they have 2 novice and 1 intermediate group - in the intermediate group, only a few other gals were actually going 'fast'. I found it kind of frustrating that there were gals in that group who were still very, very intimidated on a race track (with the close passing and all).
I heard this year they were going to really crack down on people's speeds and I also heard Suzuki was going to be there!
I can't decide if I want to go and do it again - it was a BLAST - I met some really, really great gals - and had fun with my g/f's (some of which were total newbies!)...
...or do a two day track day at Buttonwillow (only 90 miles away) on my own bike....
**For those that aren't familiar with Femmoto**
It's a women's only demo track day - you arrive the night before, and each manufacturer has their bikes set up (so you can sit on them, ask questions, etc and decide what you want to ride).. then you sign up for a bike in your session (novice or intermed)...
Last year there were 150 chicks! This year its a two day event!
They have a banquet on Sat night too...
It's in Las Vegas!!!

I've gone the last two years and had a blast.
I'm still debating whether to go or not this year.
Personally, I'm not too jazzed about the two day demo day. I always took the first demo day to try new bikes and learn the track, then the second day as a trackday with your own bike.
I think overall it's a good idea though. Like you, I got the crappy bikes to demo as there wasn't much left when I signed up for the bikes.
Love to go, too bad it's so far away.

It's not that far.
Ersigh and I drove the last two years (actually, she did all the driving) as we were we were hauling our bikes there.
I think because we jibber-jabbered on the way there, time flew by.

You all should come out to Buttonwillow instead - we'll have our own chick day at the track!
Inky - I grew up just north of you! :) In Redwood Valley (just north of Ukiah!)
Buttonwillow is not too much of a haul from Rosa...
No way. I grew up in Willits, but don't tell everyone! I'm too slow to do a track day. I think I'm just fast enough to sit in the stands.:tongue

Not to mention the lack of anything interesting to look at once you are on 5. Thank god for the stray piece of garbage, and then the Army doing manuevers in the desert. That was cool! Nothing like driving next to a tank for a little while! The whole drive needs to be like the Tehatchapi mountains. Those rocked!

Small world!!! :lol
There is NO SUCH THING as too slow for a track day!! That's why they have a NOVICE group!!!
They have instructors to show you around, and give you pointers. Riding on the race track is the absolute best thing you could possibly do to improve your skill and build your confidence!
A lot of my friends were nervous about doing a track day cuz they thought they were too slow. In the end they were thrilled and felt liberated from their previous fears!
The race track is the safest environment you could possibly find to face your fears..... there is always someone there to give you pointers and guide you along..... and there's always an ambulance on-site to make sure you get proper care if you did crash..... BUT the most important thing.... when in doubt, stand it up and run off into the dirt. There will be NOTHING to hit!
Sorry - I didn't mean to sound preachy... I just want you to know that you are not the only one who may feel that way...
My first track day was in April 2002, at Buttonwillow, with Trackdaz.com (great group!)... I had been riding a m/c for 8 mos.... I was lapped by the entire novice group - twice! In ONE session!!!!
By the end of the weekend, I had built so much confidence - and with that comes speed... :)
If you decide to come out to one - let me know! We'll pit together, and I'll show you the ropes!!!

I would love to get together with a group from this area and share the cost of transportation and lodging. I've been to Femmoto once before, a couple of years ago, and had a lot of fun. Is anyone up for putting together a group?

You crack me up! I can appreciate your enthusiasm, motorcycling does that to you.;)
I don't lack confidence, I just get bored going around a track. I kind of like going to places that I may never see again, and doing that on a bike let's me see so much more than in a car. I can go fast, but I choose to be slower. I work on my skills everytime I get on 101 to get home. (I also get my blood pressure up too, damn crazy drivers!!!!!!) I'm glad there's women out there who are totally stoaked about the track time. It does the sport good. Nice to see the interviews with Greg White on Two Wheel Tuesday. You guys are totally making a difference in the perceptions of what motorcycling has become. Two big thumbs up!
I've just come to the realization, that I like to poke along, and breath and relax. I like to see the cows on the side of the rode, being cows. I like exploring new roads and seeing how the hillsides change on even the everday rodes that I travel.
Track ladies are awesome, and I applaude you. But, I don't think that it's my thang. I'm happy to sit back and watch you guys be awesome.

I'll be there. I'm one of the instructors so I'm guessing I'll have to be. :lol
My perspective was the same as racercutie's as far as riding the demo bikes to get to know the track. I'm really happy with my bike and am not too curious about other ones. Of course, part of that might be that Yamaha isn't out there. :happy
Figuring out a group thing for lodging sounds like a good idea, I can't promise to be partially social but I'll pay my bill. Last year we did the group thing (racercutie put it together) I was pretty overwhelmed by all the unknown people making noise in the house but financially it worked out well.
I'm hoping to travel with someone to help cut gas costs as I'm sure that's going to be painful. It makes sense for most people to fly because I think it's cheaper than driving. At least this year I won't be worried about my truck dying on the way. heh. (i had bought my truck a week before femmoto and did a bunch of work to it before i left but still wasn't sure ... talk about test drive!)

I totally respect that. I love cruising around making moo noises at the cows (I grew up on the back of bikes in Sonoma County) but I have to say that when I first started going to the track that it enhanced my street riding confidence tons. When things are all and well in my life, I ride track and street both and I feel that they compliment each other. I'd venture to say that femmoto, of any track day, is the one to go to, just for the experience and opportunity to support fellow women riders and try out buttloads of bikes (a majority of which are less track and more street orientated).

Next year? Perhaps at a track day in the nearer future?

Next year for sure. :) I'm just going through a bunch of stuff so this year isn't the best time for me to attempt instructing or a long trip. I haven't been on the track since last year so I'm feeling a bit rusty anyhow. :]

Actually, a few of my g/f's and I were thinking about doing a Cal Sportbike TracXperience event.
They are a touch more expensive, but chick's get a 20% discount, and they are rumored to have a really great program - especially the novice one.
Anyway, they do have some events later in the year at Reno-Fernely... So if anyone's interested... Please keep me in the loop!
There is also a Take It 2 The Track event at Buttonwillow on Sept 18th & Oct 16th!
Hope to meet you all one of these days! :riding:
Oh yeah - and anyone who wants a ride to Femmoto, I'll be leaving from SLO.. I know it's a bit of a haul from the Bay Area, but it beats driving all by yourself - so let me know if you want to catch the diesel wagon!
Since I'll be instructing, I have to bring my own bike...

It will be about the same time next year - I don't know the exact dates, but it will be the weekend at the very end of the first full week of Oct.
This year was the 7-8th, so I imagine next year will be the 8-9th.
