Why is he a scumbag? He seems to have a valid complaint which is based on concern for safety and obeying the law. He's a police officer. He could be saying a lot worse stuff than he is. Although his idea of stopping a rider at the light and knocking them off their bike would probably get him put at a desk.
Here in CA he'd be citing any kind of bike though. There are some crazy ass Harley riders out there (they do wheelies too!)
There is a general opinion that stunters don't care how they affect others. That's not true ... it's just a mass majority of the ones that do it in public places have the superman mentality and seem to think that they won't make a mistake and crash. There is a time and place for this sort of stuff and if I were a cop, I'd bust someone who did it in a public place but if I saw they were away from public doing it ... I wouldn't.
Here the cops will tolerate stunters/drag racing in areas away from the public for awhile. They don't come in and do a big bust, they'll just show up and people have time to "run". Unfortunately there's always some ass who ************s that up by doing something stupid, hurting someone and then that area gets cracked down on.
The problem isn't the cops ... it's the stupid people ... who are not a majority as some may thing, but a minority that makes really big messes.

Exactly. The cop is still a scumbag.
I can't stand profiling and lame cops who feel the necessity to play hero and harass people who are not doing anything wrong.

I agree but aside from that guy, the rest of the thread is actually interesting. It's neat to see them interacting, disagreeing and expressing a fair amount of reasonable ideas. Based on my experience with cops ... these reasonable guys must all live somewhere else or don't actually work the streets. :lol

Hehe and it's neat to see monkeys at the zoo interacting. But it's always that one monkey throwing feces that makes it so you can't stand to have them around :)

Darn! I thought I was going to be able to stand on my handlebars and do a wheelie while lane splitting at 100 mph just because my bike looks like a super sport!
Wish people like the gonzo cop would realize it's the same thinking that puts all sportbike riders into the same mold that puts all cops into the same mold. People just aren't that easy to figure out.

Yeah the cop's an idiot, but if you read most of the replys its nice to see that his brother officers think he's an idiot too!
That at least is encouraging.
Cop's are like riders, it only takes a few "bad" ones to color everyones perception.
As motorcyclists we should feel responsible for other riders that are "idiots". When you find yourself at a rest stop with the fool who was highway "stunting" a few miles back- say something to him or her.............. let em know you did not appreciate them putting folks besides themselves at risk.........ask them what would their Mother think?
It only takes a second of really bad luck to change your life forever. Not paranoid- just real true.

I agree 110%! Although I wouldn't patronize someone by asking them what their mother would think.
I have made several "enemies" by expressing my opinions about someone's riding. Newbs need mentors. A lot of newbs never get those mentors and don't realize they aren't practicing common sense until someone tells them. A fair percentage of "idiots" end up being pretty kewl once you take them under your wing. The other small chunk who refuse to adjust their bad habits, you can at least warn others against them and know who to avoid.
