Hi Ladies,

Wanted to remind all of you that as we age our bones may begin to weaken & become fragile & they can fracture more easily. The last place you want to be is on the side line in a cast.
I found out 9 years ago after a density test showed that my bones were becoming thin & porous from both genetics & poor life style choices in my 20’s, 30’s & most of my 40's).
I listened to my Doctor and began to eat more foods rich in calcium ,quit smoking reduced my 3 pots a day consumption of coffee, drank less alcohol & added supplements of Calcium with Vitamin D with a hope of maintaining the bone I have.
The reason I bring this up is I did a little “get off” on my bike last weekend and crack a rib. Most likely wouldn’t have if my bones were stronger, I am still riding but the rib thing it is a real nuisance to say the least.
REMEMBER The younger you start & the longer you keep it up the better.
You can’t change genetics but you can lower your risk with certain lifestyle changes.
Be safe and take care of yourselves now.

Yes, I am very very lucky that it was just a rib. The X-ray showed how much my bones have softened over the last few years and that my efforts with diet have not halted the progress.
My Doctor wants to get me started on "Fozamax".
I went through menopause at 43. ( considered early). Ask your Moms & Grandmoms when they started. Work with your Doctor on a plan to keep your bones healthy.
And PLEASE be sure and get enough Calcium with Vitamin D in your daily diet.
That does not mean lay in the sun with a White Russian.

My mom is late 40s and hasn't begun yet ... I'm wondering since she had a hysterectomy if she'll know (she has 1 ovary left) ... I don't wanna go through menopause ... *cries* That sounds scary than going through puberty again! :lol

I try to remember to take vitamins and eat calciumy sort of stuff. If you think you can get the calcium you need through milk... do some research and look into how the dairy actually blocks absorption... it's worthwhile to get some OJ, soy milk, etc that is calcium enriched if drinking it is preferable to eating it.

Don't be too scared of menopause. It's not always bad. I seem to be in the midst of it, but I don't feel different at all.

:lol I'm sorry but I just had to laugh at that.

I read it then looked at your avitar (in that order) hoping it had nothing to do with menopause...

Ok so maybe you had to be there....

Is it hot in here or is it just me???

My hormones have been quite cruel to me ever since they decided to kick in when I was 10 or so ... so ... I suspect it is something I should be mildly concerned about. However, knowing me and my tendency to just be open about everything... I'll end up making a lot of jokes about it and surviving it relatively well.
