Hello all, I am glad I found your site. I have been looking for something like this sence I have desided to get a bike. I will be taking the motorcycle train course in about 3 weeks and I am really excited. Then I am going shopping for my own bike. I would like to get a harley.
Is there any other riders from the Central NY area? I also have one question to all you lady riders, I am 5'2 and 120 lbs. and I need a bike that I will be able to handle and reach the ground. I am looking at the XL 883L Sportster, by I am not sure if I will be able handle it, what do you all think?

The 883 would probably be the best of the Harley line to start with but if you are brand new to riding I'd get a used Honda Shadow 600 to 800 or a used Kawasaki Vulcan 500 to 800 to start. Being used you won't be as upset when you drop it (and I do mean when it happens to everyone at least once!). I have a Vulcan 750 and am 5'2" and can get the balls of both feet on the ground at the same time. My riding buddy is just barely 5' and rides the Shadow 600VLX she can also get the balls of both feet on the ground at the same time. The Shadow is definitely shorter then the Vulcan as I can put down both feel flat.
All that said, go out and sit on them all then get what you are most comfortable with. After your class you should be able to take them for test rides as well. Just try different bikes you like the looks of till you find, a preferably IMHO used, bike you are comfortable on.
Happy Riding!!!
