Ladies,

I have a bit of an interesting question... I have been scouting out this cute little 2006 ninja 500r for myself and the mileage on the bike is about 10K. I was wondering is that too high or just right for an 06?

The price that was quoted to me by the seller is around $2,500. Would I be getting a steal or am I getting duped?

Please help

10K on a 5 year old bike is reasonable, that's 2K a year. I would rather have some miles on the bike to keep parts lubricated. NADA and Kelly Blue Book list it in the Kansas City area at 2500-2700 so it sounds like it is priced right.

I agree with KK, sounds like a good deal for a barely used bike.

Just for the sake of comparison, ridingAK and I have upwards of 30,000 miles on our 2006's.

As someone who puts some decent miles on a bike, I would much rather have a bike with some miles vs one that sat for any period of time. Sitting never does a bike good and leads to clogged carbs and rust in the gas tank pretty easily. If they sit for extended period of times (years), you end up with dried seals like in the forks or rear shock, engine/transmission seal, cracked and dry rotted rubber hoses, dry rotted tires, etc. You end up replacing things that should have never needed replacing had the bike just been ridden regularly.

A bike that is constantly ridden and kept up is almost always a better buy. Even a higher mileage bike usually means it had to be maintained someone to ride it that often to put those miles on it.

And although there are many, many bikes that rarely see 10k, 20k, or 30k miles or more, there are plenty more guys who put way more miles on bikes then people do on cars. Bike engines are like car engines and 100k-200k miles is really nothing on a well maintained bike.

- A buddy has 360k on his 1980's Harley and 195k on his 2003 Suzuki Vstrom 1000.
- Local forum member has 206k miles on his 2001 CBR F4i. (Funny thing is the F4i only has 5 digit odometer, so its rolled over twice.. LOL)
- know plenty more people that are over 100k on their bikes.

Now those guys with 200k miles on their bikes are replacing things that people probably never think about (like axles, fuel fittings) and various things that eventually just fail after that many miles, but they both had many trouble free miles and because both of them ride their bikes everyday, they are very well maintained.

10k on an 06 EX500 is not bad at all and probably one that was ridden a bit which is good.
