View Full Version : Heated Gloves or Grips?

So that's my dilemma.

I read somewhere that it takes heated grips at least 10 minutes to warm up enough to feel it. My commute is only about 15 minutes. So I wouldn't even feel anything until just before I got to work. I'm also kind of hesitant about adding them because they're a permanent attachment that I wont really have a use for year-round.

So I thought about just getting heated gloves instead... does anyone have any and know how long it takes them to get warm? Is it irritating to have all of the wires flailing about while riding?

I've got heated grips. On long rides the warmth helps to increase the circulation to my hands. Even if it's not all that cold, they tend to help. I use mine more than I thought I would. My commute is 3 miles and I don't use them , unless I left them on. So, I'm not sure about your commute. I'm kinda of the mind that warm fingers help with better dexterity and I can use my clutch and brake immediately if the situation calls for it. Cold , stiff fingers have scared me in the past.

But the Triumph grips get HOT! Really nice.

I have both and at times I have had both on at one time...IT WAS COLD!!!!

The gloves work by keeping the back of your hand warmer. The wires have a long double lead that you put up your sleeves and the end you plug into the bike comes out the bottom of your jacket. I think they start working before 10 min but if it is REALLY cold out it might feel like it takes longer.

The grips are what I use the most as I tend to be a glove whore. I have some good gloves that are not as thick and the heated grips helps keep my hands warm on a colder day with the lighter gloves. But they do take a long time to heat up...

Have you looked into a product called Hippo hands? They cover your hands and controls and they work really well. Take a look and see.

Good luck!

bwaaaah haaa haaa haaa... it was all part of my master plan... single-handedly keeping the motorcycle accessories business going strong :lol

the power of suggestion, it's an amazing thing :tongue

i decided to go with the heated grips because i didn't want to deal with the wires involved with heated gloves, and i didn't want to have to take the hippo hands on and off every time i got off/on the bike... i felt that if i just left them on they would surely get stolen... ahhh, the joys of living in SF.

Well your master plan is working but I feel the need to wait until after court today to see if I will have any $$ left. (speeding ticket:( ) If I do I am just down the street from the BMW shop...hmmmm

I know I'm too late to the thread, but I just thought I would offer my opinion anyway (isn't that what the internet is for?) My girlfriend has heated gloves (brand new Gerbings) and says they get warm right away - definitely not a 10 minute wait.

Thank you Veda for your comments about your girlfriend and the gloves. Gerbing is the BOMB! IMHO
