View Full Version : Seriously, I'm missing the sexy part?

Hope this isn't too racy of a subject, and if it is, please mods feel free to delete it. I won't be offended.
I just don't have the nerve to ask a fellow this question, so I'm asking it here.
Ever since I started to get interested in riding a motorcycle as a sport, and noticing in sport related mags the sexual connotation in advertising, I've wondered about this.
Now, since I posted myself, all 63 years of me in rubber ducky flannel pajamas no less, on my FB page, I get these comments that are kind of sexual in nature.
What's up with that?
I'm really not feigning naivete', I genuinely don't get the sexual inferences that seem to accompany a female on a motorcycle.
I'm sorry if this is too racy of a question, but I find it quite peculiar and just don't understand the relationship between sex and riding a motorcycle.
I never found that to be true in all my years bicycle riding or in bicycle riding mags.

I think it is the perception that "bad girls" are the only ones who ride bikes, and some outdated sexist attitude that women "riding" anything with power must have a sexual component.
If your definition of sexy is a strong, independent woman, then I get it. But otherwise, I don't see the sex appeal either.

I am only guessing because I do not know what to imagine specially with the "ducky flannel pajamas'
Only thing I can do is,.... giggle.

I don't know about you Chein, but I think I would be flattered by the innocent remarks. Now if they get down right raunchy then you may have something to worry about, but the playful innuendos, hey I say have a little fun with it, keeping in mind that this is just for fun and nothing to get serious about. A few years ago a "young" man told me I sure looked sexy on my bike, I laughed and answered back that everybody looks sexy on a Harley, but later as we were riding home, I smiled to myself thinking that was the first time in quite a few years that anyone had told me I looked sexy, and I kind of liked it. I agree with Follow most of the magazines are out to sell the product and sex sells. (PS I've been on the lookout for that "young" man ever since. http://www.twowheelfemales.com/forum/images/smilies/Big%20Grin2.gif)

Easy answer, the pic you posted today on the Monster thread, a well maintained, attractive, mature woman on a hot Italian sport bike, both are sexy.
Enjoy the attention as much as you want, if it gets beyond the point that is acceptable to you, shut them down or set the Doberman on them, or the Hubby.

oof, I guess I have a different opinion on it. I think that culturally, women are rewarded for behaving in an appropriate fashion by being awarded with sex object status. like that whole MILF thing.
Don't get me wrong, I love to feel sexy and desired. but I hate to feel like I'm being pigeon holed or reduced to the sum of my (physical) parts. And I hate the idea that my goal in all of my endeavors is to be desirable to men, and my accomplishments can be so easily written off.
I also don't think that most people are doing this on purpose (though there are some that clearly are being insulting and trying to keep you in a "place"), it's something that our larger society does without even thinking.
(I promise I'm not humorless, but I am a feminist!)

I appreciate your comments, Kari-Star, and everyone else's, of course.
But, really I guess that speaks more to my curiosity. A woman is sexy on a motorcycle. Why, exactly, is that the case, is my question.
What about the motorcycle makes a woman on it, sexy? And not, say, a bicycle, or throwing a javelin, or hiking, or skiing?...Do you see what I mean?
Usually, I am able to understand most social/cultural behaviors, but this one baffles me.
Maybe it's something that only a man can really answer.
I've never thought a woman on a motorcycle was sexy. I just thought she looked brave and I admired the feat and considered it quite an accomplishment.

IMHO I think it is the danger factor that makes the motorcycle rider so much more appealing than say the bicycle rider or the Olympic athlete. I believe men in general really get off on danger. Maybe it's a gene thing or maybe it's because they are trained from boyhood that the more dangerous an active the more worthy it is of admiration, i.e. playing soldier as a child or playing football in high school or college. So for a woman to ride a motorcycle (defined as: a dangerous sport) then the said woman must be someone worthy of admiration (defined as: sexually desirable ). This may be a contributing factor as to why there are so many single men motorcycle riders. They see a woman rider (defined as: sexually desirable), they pursue said woman, but they eventually find said woman to be rather ordinary when not on said bike, and there ends the attraction.

Part of the sex appeal must have to do with a woman handling and controlling a very powerful, fast and dangerous machine, like taming a beast. I seem to vaguely remember ads with an elegantly dressed woman with a tiger on a leash, that sort of thing. Sex sells, young, attractive women on M/C, some men want to buy that bike for their woman because he thinks she'll look like that, some woman want to buy that bike because she thinks she'll look like that.

Thanks for all the thoughtful, considered responses.
I think I kind of get it, now.
I didn't receive any insulting responses on my FB page. Some did have a 'spicy' undertone though, and not just from men. So I just wondered where that phenomenon arose from.
So, it seems like it's a combination of advertising and the kinds of images and ideas that men and women find seductive.
Bottom line: I love riding my motorcycle. Both my little Honda Nighthawk 250, sweet, little, easy ride and my Ducati Monster 696, swift and exciting. Just sorry I discovered it so late in life, but better now than never!

I love the question so, even though I'm late to the party I'd like to add another perspective. The perspective I'm adding is that of my boyfriends and I'm paraphrasing. Please note I asked for honesty which results in raw male talk. I have three brothers and so, when I tell my beau that I want the truth he doesn't sugar coat things. On that note, if your easy offended please stop reading NOW!
The question I posed: "Why are women who ride motorcycle considered sexier than a women who ride a bicycle?" The answer I received was "For the same reason sexually assertive women are more attractive than woman who, well, aren't." Dare I dig deeper?! Ah, hell... why not? He went on to explain to me that a women who is sexually assertive is three dimensional and a women that just lies there is two dimensional. Obviously, three dimensional is more interesting. So women that ride motorcycles are three dimensional. They have that extra umph and umph is sexy.
He also went on to make sure that I understood that it has NOTHING to do with being a tomboy. He was very adamant about that... for anyone who may have been wondering.
As for the advertising thing... it's like chicken/egg: what came first? Women riding motorcycle were sexy before it was advertised. Marketing company or no marketing company wouldn't change the fact that men are going to drool a little when they see us on two wheels.

Anyways... commence jokes and laughing again. Just needed to send the above into cyber space. :igotmail:
Thanks for this perspective. It makes sense and thank your boyfriend for his attempt to explain the 'twisties' of the male mind. :clapping:
I go on ONE little business trip, with very little TWF play time, and THIS is what I come back to. Hey... I want in... :D:
*rummages around for flannel jammies* Wait... gotta have Baby Bonnie back first. It'll have to wait until the weekend.
I wanted you to come back to something entertaining!!
I will have to go buy some bigger flannel PJs, mine won't fit over my riding gear.
Good point:thumbup:
Getting dressed for work this morning and what catches my eye? Not pajamas, but my dark blue flannel lounging pants with big snowflakes all over them.:chin:
I wonder if an old pair of Nut's lounging pants would fit over my riding pants. :chin:
You know, we could make a point with this whole thing. Anyone who asks why on earth we'd be in public, on a motorcycle, with pajamas, we could tell them it is to make a point about ATGATT. It is no crazier to ride in flannel pjs than it is to ride in shorts and a tank top.
:ecstasy:Great idea!! Love this!!:ecstasy:

:yahoo:Now, that's the spirit that made us motorcycle girls famous!!!:yahoo:
:wootrock:
No, riding without Gear!! Absolutely against the rules. This must be in your own garage or carport or driveway or other safe, engine-not-running, place.
:pompom:No photos riding places without gear....We must be loyal TWF aficionados!!!:pompom:
What rules, sweetie. Not back chatting but, I am not talking about being dangerous, just a bit of fun. Just a thought

Susie, I think the point is that sitting on the bike with pajamas, is very cool. Getting a picture made in public wearing pajamas while sitting on the bike is even cooler. Riding without protective gear is NOT cool. When Nut gets home I want to find a pair of flannels that will fit over my riding pants. I even have my destination picked out. If the pjs fit over the pants I will ride there wearing them, if not, I will change when I get there for the photo-op.
We are all about having fun, as long it is responsible fun!
