As posted on our local BMW Message Board:
I know, you never thought you would see me post under this section, did ya?? Had to share. SheBike went to Gary O. at the pre-rally party. After the Rally, Gary gives me some very bad news. One of the studs has come out. Now, I've been hearing a noise, not the AK klunk, but a noise in which Anchorage told me she had 50,000 miles so it was normal, the mechanic in Fairbanks told me he didn't hear anything unusual. I didn't say anything to Gary but just asked him to check her out. Good ole Gary, I knew I could depend on him. He hears my noise and informs me it is due to, at a minimum, dry splines, which means SheBike gets broken down. He calls Sandia BMW for me and they graciously agree to pick her up from Gary's. I send Jim and John an email advising she needs to come in and I'm at the end of my BMW MOA riding challenge and really need to get her back ASAP, but I also don't them to rush and make any mistakes either. They get her end of last week and call me Tues. afternoon with a diagnosis. The stud, obviously, has to be taken care of. They don't know if there is any serious damage to the splines and in visiting with Gary and John, I feel it is best they go ahead and tear into her so we know for sure what is going on and get it taken care of. The best case scenario is lubricating the splines, then it would be replace the clutch, then worst is rebuilding the transmission. Well, unbelievable to me, the splines are dry with a little rust and I have only used up .4 mm on my clutch so not even a new clutch, just lubricating the splines. WHOPPEE!!!:wootrock: They send someone to pick me up today so I can get SheBike and we go for a 320 mile ride. She sounds sooooo good. I know we have lots of riding miles together. I want to thank Jim and John for taking care of me in such a professional manner and getting me on the road so I can get some miles this weekend. But, thought you might like to see the pictures of SheBike all broken down, in case you haven't seen one broken down like this. I would also like to thank the mechanic, and I believe his name was Toby.

It's really hard for me to look at her like this. But she looked perfect when I picked her up.
