I had a little run-in (http://thewolftamer71.blogspot.com/2011/01/fz1-maintenance-tires.html) with Cruzman to kick off the year and was forced to replace my Yoshimura TRS slip-on. The poor thing got damaged in a way that I couldn't just buy replacement parts from Yoshimura.

This happened just after I realized I really did like my bargain TRS and didn't want to replace it. At the time, price was very important so I opted to get another used Yoshimura. This time it was an RS1 that I was able to pick up locally.

I chose to stay with the Yosh because I knew the sound. Boy was I wrong. One of the more popular tuners on the FZ1OA site always says "A two inch hole is a two inch hole". On that, he's right. But length is a factor too. The TRS is two inches shorter than the RS. It's also a tri oval which apparently affects sound too. I found the RS1 to be too quiet! Sound Clip (https://picasaweb.google.com/102930053863249087694/YoshimuraRS1#5571904613894951378).

Another thing I didn't like right away was the length. It was too long for my tastes.

Compared to

It's hard to tell from the pics but the TRS stopped in line with the tire, the RS1 ends at the fender. The RS1 also looks like every other exhaust. So since I got it, I was still looking at exhausts. I was even considering getting a carbon fiber sleeve for the rs and cutting down the the length I wanted. Anything shorter than the length it was! Then on my sometimes daily look through ebay, I saw this:

Something completely different! I exchanged emails with the seller and discovered they had them to fit my bike but just needed to put the auction up. :ecstasy: I asked them to wait until I contacted them again because I wasn't certain if I liked it enough to buy it.

I got busy with some photo chops of their exhausts that I liked:

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-38UrOTZ6Pe4/Tl_UhqjeHiI/AAAAAAAAK0c/U7FFRl32Pc8/s640/FZ%252520poppy.jpg

Once I decided, I emailed them again asking for the auction. I paid extra for the "db eater". It didn't take them long to ship it from Italy to my doorstep. They shipped it on a Monday and I got it on Wednesday morning!

The bike was still on the trailer from the Arkansas Fall Gather because of the wheel bearings so I couldn't rush down to the garage to put it on right away. I had to wait another darned day!

So here's the first ever brand damned new muffler I've ever purchased. It came very well packaged.

A big difference from the TRS (the first ever mufller I'd purchased) which was in a box that was made from multiple boxes and wrapped in a bunch of sales papers.

As soon as I opened the box I discovered more packaging

It was a lot to get through before I even got a glimpse of my muffler

The mid pipe and silencer was still in the box.

The rest of the stuff: the hanger, springs, silencer, and spring tool

The whole package

This is the GPR Grand Prix Evolution Speed Cone muffler. It is black stainless steel with a kevlar cap. GPR have been making mufflers since 1968 and for Moto2 and World Superbike. It looks like they've just entered the US market in the past few years from what I've read. The muffler was cheaper than getting a new Carbon Fiber Yosh TRS which was something else I was considering.

I got to put it on the next day when I went to Cruzman's to get the bearings done. The Yoshimura RS1 is 21 inches long, the TRS was 18 inches long, and the GPR is 12.5 inches long. Exactly the length I was looking for!

Old vs New

I couldn't wait until we got finished with the bearings so while Cruzman was looking for an alternate tool after breaking the bearing puller, I slipped it on the bike
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-b_SmLUqt0dg/To6decs6C0I/AAAAAAAALMc/pAIqil17vlU/s640/DSCN5193.JPG

It looked great! :yahoo:

After that it was just a matter of getting it lined up. The only thing was we had to enlarge the hole for the hanger. Nothing you can tell though.

I've only got a few miles on it. We went to bike night at Cycle Gear right after that. Normally when Cruzman and I are talking through the comms, I can clearly hear Stella over Baby. No more! Baby sounds like he should and I love the sound. Here are some sound clips I have so far.

First without the rear db eater that came pre-installed
Rear DB removed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONQSHSwMTN8)

With the rear db
Rear DB in (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-3hZ48T6SI)

There's also a front db eater that I've yet to install. I've been tired and now the weather isn't cooperating for a photo and video shoot. I have to change the oil later in the week so I'll put the front eater in and do videos with all the configurations.

Their eBay store is http://stores.ebay.com/motochepassionesrl. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again. They are very responsive and it didn't take them long to get my stuff shipped once they received payment.

He's back, but there's one more project in progress that'll make him better than new. Hoping to get the final parts end by the end of the month for that.

Since I bought the extra db eater for the muffler, I felt obligated to put it in even though I like the sound of it as delivered. Here are a couple more vids with the front db eater installed.

First

Second

Third is an on the road video with acceleration from stop to about 8500 rpms. It's still in the editing room right now though. Will add it here once it's online.

I decided to continue to use the rear db eater only after hearing all of the configurations.

Sounds great to me WT - does it change engine performance at all from what you've noticed thus far?

I have an odd answer: It smells less rich. Also it seems to be better below 3k so it's easier to get off of the line.

My jetting is a bit rich anyway and I plan to take the bike for dyno so I can get the jet kit "perfect" for my bike.

Unfortunately I have less than 70 miles on the thing but I have been starting the bike just to listen to it.

:omg: That sounds awesome!

That is a sweet looking slip-on! Never saw a GPR pipe but they make some great stuff so I would assume their quality carries over. A slip-on is going to affect the fuel a bit over stock but usually not enough to warrant a power commander or bazzaz if you have Fuel Injection. I have never messed with carbs but would guess that you could definitely tweak it with jets.

One thing I have learned is that no third party parts ever as well as the stock parts so if all you had to do was enlarge a hole in a bracket, that is nothing.

when I installed my first slip on, the bike still had stock jetting. It popped something awful on decel. Then I got the jet kit. The popping went away and the bike performed better. Jetting is to carbs as the power commander is to fi.

Jetting for me was changing the main pilots, shimming needles, and some other stuff. Any tweaks will be to the main pilots and the shim stack. At the moment without any dyno I think I need to go up on the 2 & 3 pilots and reduce my shims a little. It's not running terrible as it is so I'll wait until I have dyno money to get it right instead of trusting my butt dyno.

I'm going to do another Baby in 3d once the extensions come for the forks. I'll put sound clips of the muffler with that one.

And despite what they say, I think this slip on works better with my bike! The bike runs much better (not that it was bad before) since I installed this. Hopefully dyno run in January (or December if Santa is real).
