It looks like I will be heading out Monday to Macon Ga.
The young man I am mentoring has been looking for a good track bike and has been pulled in many directions by many good intentioned people. His Dad finally came to me and asked if I would find him a bike that I would feel comfortable letting his son on for a set amount of money. It is wonderful to see his dad helping out with his sons dreams...
So the hunt was on. One after the other bikes came and went. Some cost way to much. Some were way out of his skill range for a first timer to the track. I even had one come around that was the right price but was (I think)just a bit to 'hot' for me. Nice bike though!
I had just about given up when on Wed this week I logged on the ADVRider Forum and saw a set of SV650s for sale. One street, one track. Both for the price of one.
A spasm of activity all at once! Typing a PM to the seller and punching in the phone # of Dad to tell him what I found and get permission to go with it. As the connection went through to him the call was dropped. Dang. Call again, drop again... 33,000 + members on ADVRider. A chance of a 17 year olds life time and I can't keep a line open to dad to get the story out and permission to press the send key!! :mad My phone rings, it's him he has crawled up on some equipment at the work site and we can now talk. He wants to know if I think this is a good thing. I say yes only if we act fast. It's a go, I press the send key and off it goes...am I too late? As has happened so many times before. One minute too long in thinking should I or shouldn't I and someone beat me to the punch...Dang there is someones post before mine asking about some such BS Dang!!! I'm late!
Then my PM rings me. I'M IN!!! Like flint!!! WOOHOO!!:happy
I call back Dad and let him know he is now the proud owner of 2 new bikes.
They are going to be stored until his birthday March 2 at my shop.
When I turned 17 I had a Honda 305 Dream. He will now have a BMW R1150R and two 2001 SVs. What a lucky young man. Now if you are thinking that he might not appreciate this he is THE most level headed 16/17 year old I have ever known. I have ridden many miles with him and have seen him be pushed buy both peers and older riders and he never budged, he road his ride and let others ride there ride. A rare treat for me to see.
So 905 miles down and a side trip on the way back to 129 to see how the bikes shake out...J/K!
Maybe...:lol
I think this will be a cool road trip. About time too, I so needed to get out of the house!!!
And its cold in Macon... Dang!:(
