View Full Version : Girly Question...

I'm not overly high maintenance, but I do like my long fingernails. One problem is finding gloves that fit my hand, but have long enough fingers to accommodate my nails, anyone have any suggestions?

The other problem is that on multi-day rides my nails tend to get trashed. Normally I just cut them very short and wait until I'm home to grow them out again, but if anyone has any tips about keeping long nails on the road I'd love to hear them.

Finding gloves to fit female palms and fingers seems to be a real challenge. Especially in the totally weatherproof variety.

The Nut is really just concerned with keeping my nails long so he gets his back scratched when we are on the road...:happy

Sorry rAK my nails are always short I do not even try to grow them any more.

I work in a woodshop & file my broken nails with a piece of sandpaper most of the time.:tongue

My nails are short. In my line of work long nails are a drag. I HATE it when I bend one back to the quick.:mad

That said, gloves made for us girls have never fit me so I wear mens and make do.:(

I have rather small hands and I have trouble finding gloves that don't have to long fingers.

I have women's size medium to large hands, but my fingers are fairly long, and I wear my nails long. It would seem that men's gloves would work, but they are usually too wide in the palm, the thumb is too short, and the fingers are too long. :mad I just need to figure out a way to load and unload a bike without breaking them off. Normal activities are fine, but it seems like a few days on the road either make me careless, or makes my nails less strong than they are at home.

I just WISH my nails would grow!! :no It seems as soon as the get pat the tip of my fingers, it's over. I've gotten to where I just keep them clipped short because it's too heartbreaking to see them try to grow and then get chipped or broken before they ever have a chance...

but I still have yet to find a pair of gloves that fits. I have a pair of ICON leather gloves that are the right length (except the pinky is WAY too long), but they are so tight, they leave indentions in my hands and make them ache after a short time riding. And the next size up is too big. We actually have to take breaks so I can take off my gloves and get the feeling back in my hands. Maybe they just need to be broken in. They ARE leather, and I really haven't been wearing them much lately...I don't know.:(

I am really serious about trying to get the ear of Alpine Star or Revit or ? and convincing them to make gear for US, not just small guys.

I guess I'm lucky that my nails are really hard and grow very fast, but it means clipping them at least every other day if I want them to stay short on the road, and I always have better things to do.

Your gloves are WAY to tight. And I am afraid that if they are as tight as you describe, even though they are leather they will Never fit.

Gloves should fit loose enough that when you make a tight fist the back of the knuckles should JUST start to get tight across them. They should be small enough that there should not be wrinkles between your hands and the grips.
If they have a fold or wrinkle it will put a pressure point on your hand and will cause numbness or a sore spot that will lead to you thinking about your hands and NOT your riding!
Almost all of my gloves have armor but I do have some that do not. (they are from my Biker Days:blush: ) The best armor is hard and on the knuckles and back of the fingers too. The next best is a pad of leather and foam. Then nothing but material with no armor. Leather lasts longer than cloth when sliding but are better than not wearing anything if you think leather is to hot.
It is a personal choice what you wear. I tend to wear according to the type of riding i will be doing. I also tend to keep about 3 pairs with me when I ride LD so I still have a choice as the riding I do changes so much according to the area/weather I am in.
Always get the best you can afford because road rash is ALWAYS more expensive than a good pair of gloves! And they hurt less!:tongue

And remember the best stuff you have is the stuff you wear!

Just running through the online RevIt catalogue. The Ultra H2O, SP Flight H2O, and ZX08 H2O look like nice contenders. The latter has some silicon in the palm that works great with heated grips. (really radiates the heat)

Inferno VCS looks like a decent compromise between a Racing and Touring glove for the summer months.

But the chances are the pinky fingers are too long, the thumbs too short, and the seam is in the wrong place at the fingertip....:lol :lol :lol

Seriously though,,,,,wasn't there a vendor at the Vegas MC rally that specialized in custom women gloves? If I remember correctly, the gloves were expensive but suppose to be the cat's meow. Who was that vendor?

Sad but true! I find it true from glove to glove from the same type of glove!
When I worked at MCC and saw something I liked I have been known to go through the whole box to just find one pair that would fit right!:(

Forget about it, cut the nails down and paint them the same color as your bike. Grow 'em out in the winter. I have trouble finding gloves with enough thumb space...and I take a men's large.

Loreal was kind enough to produce a vivid cobolt blue polish, I bought several bottles, it matched my old bike so well I could have used it for touch up paint. :lol

I cut them this morning, shorter than they've been in since our trip in Spring. It feels funny to be able to touch the computer keys when I type.:)
